Many people suffer from gallstones and some are detected when the stones are very small in size. Small stones are those which are less than 5 mm in size. These stones can easily pass into the bile ducts and cause blockage of the flow of bile. This can lead to infection of the gallbladder, jaundice, and even pancreatitis which is a very serious, life-threatening condition.

Thus, small gallbladder stones can also cause major complications and require treatment. The treatment for gallbladder stones of any size remains surgery in which the entire gallbladder has to be removed. The surgery is performed laparoscopically with minimal complications and rapid recovery. Medicines are not effective in the treatment of gallbladder stones even of small size and are not recommended in medical practice.
